What is Fear and Greed Index?

The Fear and Greed Index is a popular indicator used to measure overall sentiment in the cryptocurrency market. The index ranges from 0 to 100, quantifying the market’s emotional state. Low values (0–25) indicate extreme fear, while high values (75–100) signal extreme greed. Moderate levels (40–60) suggest a more balanced and neutral market condition.

Multiple factors contribute to the calculation of the index. Indicators such as volatility, market momentum, trading volume, social media trends, Bitcoin’s market dominance, and Google Trends data are weighted and incorporated into the index. This allows investors’ emotional tendencies to be assessed alongside the technical state of the market.

One of the most common strategies using the index is the “buy when there is fear, sell when there is greed” approach. Historically, during periods of extreme fear, the market is more likely to approach bottom levels, whereas during periods of extreme greed, the likelihood of corrections and selling pressure increases. In this sense, the index helps investors understand market cycles and manage their risks more effectively.

On this page, you can find separate Fear and Greed Index values for both Bitcoin and Ethereum. Users can track market trends by comparing daily, weekly, and monthly values. They can also examine historical data to see how sentiment has shifted over time and compare it with current trends.

It is important to note that the Fear and Greed Index alone does not provide definitive buy or sell signals. Its most effective use comes when analyzed alongside on-chain metrics, technical indicators, and market news.
